Lamivudine is the medication that is effective in terminating the reverse transcription of viral HIV as well as inhibiting the HBV reverse transcription, this medication is effective in both types of treatment.

Lamivudine in Hepatitis B treatment:

Lamivudine is an antiviral medication that is helpful in the treatment of hepatitis B infection by inhibiting virus replication and liver damage. It is also effective in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) when combined with antiretroviral medications. Lamivudine was firstly developed for the treatment of HIV but it was found effective in the case of hepatitis B.

This medication is generally not the first choice of the doctor as there are few other anti-virus medications that are highly effective and few patients developed resistance from lamivudine in 1 to 2 years of use. However, the main advantage of lamivudine is that it is very cost-friendly and inexpensive.

Lamivudine is available in tablet form of Lamivudine 300 mg and 150 mg concentrations. The tablet is taken for at least a year at the same time of the day with or without food. The concentration of lamivudine is decided by age, body weight and stage of infection generally two doses of 150 mg is given to an adult. The maximum concentration of lamivudine should not be exceeded from 300 mg.

Lamivudine is also Helpful in HIV treatment:

Lamivudine belongs to a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors class and is also used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) when combined with other antiretroviral medications. Lamivudine works by blocking the reverse transcriptase activity of viral material that inhibits the multiplication and growth of the virus. Lamivudine used in the treatment of HIV was approved by the U.S Food and drug administration (FDA).

Lamivudine is always taken along with other medications to increase its effectiveness if a person has both HIV as well as HBV then if the use of lamivudine is stopped then the condition of HBV will worsen.
